Who we are

One of West Africa’s largest public-health groups

Founded in Nigeria in 1985, SFH operates today as a network of five country offices and four specialised programme entities — working alongside communities, governments, donors, and the private sector to bring quality, affordable health care to the families who need it most.

Society for Family HealthForty years of family-centred public health.

  1. Vision

Healthy lives and wellbeing for all.

  2. Mission

Improve health outcomes by ensuring communities — particularly the poor and vulnerable — have access to affordable quality health services to lead healthier lives.

  3. Approach

Health system strengthening and total market approaches that unify the private and public sectors to scale an Essential Package of Health Services.

  4. Reach

Four country offices — Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia — reaching more than fifty million people across West Africa each year.

  5. Partnership

Working hand-in-hand with communities, government ministries, donors, and the private sector — from frontline clinics to national policy.

Founding Fathers

The three Nigerians who started it all

SFH was founded in 1985 by three eminent Nigerians — a paediatrician, a pharmacist, and a jurist — bound by a shared conviction that quality, affordable family health care belonged in every community.

Our Countries

Closer to home, in five countries

Each country office runs its own programmes, partnerships, and local presence — with shared standards and evidence from across SFH.

Our journey

Four decades, four chapters

From a single Nigerian office to a regional public-health group.

  1. 1985 — 1995

    Building trust in Nigeria

Early family-planning and maternal-health programmes alongside the Federal Ministry of Health and state partners.

  2. 1996 — 2005

    Scaling the model

HIV/AIDS programmes joined the portfolio. Insecticide-treated net distribution at national scale.

  3. 2006 — 2015

    Becoming regional

SFH Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia open — sharing the operating model across borders. The Institute of Public Health is founded.

  4. 2016 — Today

A group, not a single org

RevoHealth HMO and SFH Access bring coverage and last-mile distribution. SFH reaches more than fifty million people each year.
